Tan Trieu pomelos come in two main varieties: the orange-leaf pomelo with thin green skin and sweet, juicy, full segments; and the guava pomelo with yellow skin, pale pink segments, and a distinctive sweet flavor with a hint of sourness. Both are recognized as national crop varieties – meaning this specific flavor can only be achieved when grown in this particular region with these specific varieties.

A ripe Tan Trieu pomelo, heavy in the hand, reveals thin skin, thick segments, few seeds, and plenty of juice when peeled – leaving a lingering fragrance in the mouth after eating. This is a fruit that Saigonese often order as gifts during Tet or for ancestral worship, as it is both beautiful and meaningful.

Wash the skin before peeling. Use a knife to lightly score the skin into 6-8 segments, then peel - do not use too much force to avoid breaking the segments. Delicious when eaten fresh, in salads, or as juice. Chill for 30 minutes before eating to enhance the sweet flavor.

Grapefruit is harvested when ripe on the tree, without preservatives. Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, and it will last 1-2 weeks at room temperature.
